  • Why only 3 stars?

A group of 20 of us have just returned from The Balmoral after a 5 day break, what a great time we had from our welcoming cream tea to the lovely rooms (especially the premium ones ) to the fabulous food cooked to perfection. We enjoyed a Christmas dinner one night a truly “gut busting” meal.
The staff were always happy and helpful, all in all a smashing time.
Will soon be booking next years stay…..

  • Our Visit

We were greeted with the news that there was a cream tea for us when we were ready! The room was clean, staff friendly and food very good. The hotel is in a very quiet part of the town but only a short distance from a beach.
As we don’t have a car we had to rely on the hourly bus service but the stop is right outside the hotel.

  • Absolutely amazing

On arrival we were made very welcome with a Devon cream tea, really tasty. Our room was large, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Staff were polite, friendly and very professional. Every meal of our four day stay was wonderful, varied menu, very generous portions and delicious, I think we all gained a few pounds. I can only praise and recommend this hotel as one of the best I’ve ever stayed in. Just go try it, you won’t be disappointed. My recommendation excellent

  • Fantastic food great value

We stayed in a cosy room on a midweek break.
Room was warm and clean all you need
5 course evening meals were impressive and an excellent choice for both the evening meals and breakfasts which were also excellent.
Staff were polite, attentive and efficient.Nice garden to sit in outside must be lovely in the summer.Overall we were greatly impressed especially for the cost and we will definitely return again.

  • i would definitely stay here again

The hotel and location were lovely. Quite intimate and cosy. I was travelling alone and felt very comfortable sitting in the lounge and bar by myself. All the other guests were very friendly too. Such a short walk to Meadfoot beach (about a 2 minute walk!) And took me only about 13 minutes to walk into Torquay town/harbour.
I was upgraded from a single to double room on my arrival (without even asking!) which I thought was lovely.
The radiator in my room didn’t work properly, but I was given a plug in radiator/heater which gave off lots of heat and kept me very warm and toasty, and as i was only there for two nights i said no need to send someone in to fix it, so was not a problem.
Breakfast was really lovely. Couldn’t fault that at all.
I hope to stay there again one day! And hopefully next time the weather will be warmer and dryer – so I can sit out and enjoy the lovely garden more. (you can see the sea from the garden!)

  • Great mid week break.

Went to this hotel Monday 20th until Friday the 24th.
Great family hotel. We got to the hotel after our friends. They were shown their Room and had help with their cases.
We had a cream Tea together. Then we went up to our room.
I booked 3 double cosy room with sea views . All the room were clean and tidy . Plenty of tea & coffee .
Lovely white soft Towels. And the bed was just right . For all of us .
Food was great . Breakfast was help your self . Then you order your cooked Breakfast. What ever you wanted . Evening was 5 course . Which is what you order . And plenty of choices. For each Course.
Drink price were Average. Pub price . Other people staying here. All had good things to say about it all . There were. 6 couples who all said they be back .
Fantastic 5 Days. You could not go wrong. 12 couples can’t be wrong

  • Great Experience

Felt really at home there. Everything was clean and tidy. The food, especially was great – very good choice for breakfast as well as the evening 5 course dinner. The waiting staff were very pleasant, efficient and friendly. We will definitely be back!

  • 4 Day mid week break

Our 4th year running staying at the Balmoral Hotel Torquay. Our room 5. Was brilliant, absolutely spotless, lovely bathroom, and a huge comfortable bed.Staff can not be faulted very polite and go out of there way to make sure you have a good holiday. We have already. Booked again for next year. The only problem with the Balmoral, is the food is so good, you eat it all, A. Super breakfast anything you could want, and a great 5 course dinner in the evening. (WHAT MORE COULD YOU POSSIBLY WANT)

  • A short notice break

We rang up hoping they might be able to book us a room which had to be downstairs and have a walk in shower for one of us. A very helpful man (Adrian) arranged room 26 for us – a premier room with a king size bed and a newish en-suite with a huge shower – this less than 48 hours before arrival! It got better when we were given a four night break with five course evening meals for the price of bed and breakfast! There must be a catch? No, we had a great room with a firm bed, all very clean, good service, great breakfast and very impressive evening dinner.

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms have part garden, part sea views – we had to have downstairs for accessibility

  • Four day Christmas shopping break

First time we have stayed at the Hotel Balmoral. Exceptional value for money. Service was 100%, there was a very comfortable lounge to relax in, felt like it was home-from-home. We very much enjoyed the cream tea on our arrival and friendly welcome. Lovely views from the lounge over the garden. Our bedroom was very comfortable and had lovely views also of the garden / very peaceful surroundings.
It must be lovely to sit out on the patio during summer.
The food was exceptional, a fantastic five course menu and nothing was too much trouble. We will certainly be re-visiting the Hotel in the near future.

  • Businessman in a retired persons hotel: or that’s how it seemed on first appearances.

Well yes, it was populated by the more mature person, which isn’t all bad. It appeared most of them were on a return visit which says a lot itself. However, these people know how to party and enjoy themselves and also know a good thing when they see it.
One look a the menu convinced me to stay in for dinner, something I don’t usually do – and I’m very glad I did. The food was exceptionally well presented and cooked to perfection, the waiting on staff had to wear heat protecting gloves because the plates were so hot. The room I had was very comfy and I almost slept through my alarm.

  • Absolutely Brilliant!

We have just returned from a two day break at the fabulous Balmoral. Our only regret is that is wasn’t much, much longer. The hotel is exceptionally clean and warm. The ambience is great as is the welcome. The fabric of the lounge, bar and dining room is exceptional and well thought out. We can’t sing the praises of Alex, Nicky and Craig enough. The service in the restaurant is absolutely spot on as is the food. Brilliant chefs producing brilliant food. We will be back !
    Thank you so much.

  • We love the Hotel Balmoral!

We have been staying at the Hotel Balmoral for years now and we love it.
From the moment you arrive to be greeted by Alex the manager, to the delicious food served in the restaurant by the lovely Nicky and Craig, to Adrian pulling pints in the bar, we have a brilliant time. It’s a great place to spend some time. Rooms are well decorated, comfy and clean. The food is brilliant. Always freshly cooked and with loads of choice. I’ve never had a bad meal. When we check out, we book our next trip.

  • Short Break

Hotel with good facilities. Value for money. Excellent food with a good menu choice. Very friendly and helpful staff. Hotel in good quiet position. Regular bus service to and from Torquay town centre.

  • A Few Days Away

20 mins walk up and down a steep hill to get to town. however bus stop just opposite so no problem.
Clean, quiet and cosy, but do not expect 5 star bedroom accomodation, however you are not paying 5 star prices. If you are happy with a hotel whose staff will bend over backwards to please you, what serves excellent food and whose bar prices match those in the local hostelries then give it a go, you will not be disappointed.
I do not normally review places on any public site but for this hotel I felt I must make an exception.

  • A long weekend

A hotel we have visited on a number of occasions, which always maintains an excellent standard of food, comfortable lounge & bedroom with very friendly staff. A nice garden to relax in, an Meadfoot Beach close at hand.

  • The Balmoral

Very nice Hotel, peace and quiet at the time I went stayed in a cosy double pleasant outlook, comfortable, very clean, the staff excellent, nothing too much trouble and very welcoming and polite the food couldn’t fault it an extensive breakfast menu, evening menu 5 course changed daily but they will arrange what you want at a lower cost, definitely recommend this Hotel and would stay there again lovely.

  • Relaxing Stay

On arrival we were told that our room had been upgraded which has never happened to us before so that was an added bonus to a lovely stay at the hotel. We booked for the 5 course evening meal, this was so tasty and the service was outstanding. A bottle of wine was reasonably priced. Breakfast again was outstanding and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Balmoral and won’t hesitate to book again.

  • Family Weekend Away!

We stayed at this hotel to celebrate my Mum and Dads 50th wedding anniversary and some of us travelled up from Cornwall and others down from Grimsby.
On arrival, we were greeted by a very helpful Alex, who had been dealing with the booking. We had booked 6 rooms in total, including 2 x Sea View, which were very small. The family rooms were big and all the rooms had lovely comfortable beds. The rooms were very warm and we couldn`t switch the radiators off. Some of our party couldn`t make dinner, however Alex offered to provide sandwiches on their arrival, which was good of him.
Breakfast was good with lots of choice and the waiting staff were very friendly and accommodating.
Everyone enjoyed dinner, the desserts were lovely!
This hotel suited us as a big party and we were more than happy with the service we received.

  • Very good, for half board.

A very good hotel, food was excellent, staff were very helpful, very good entertainment on Friday and Saturday, very nice room if a little small, slightly out of town, but easy walking to centre and bus back up to 5.00pm. Would highly recommend this hotel.

  • Lovely Hotel, lovely staff.

We were looking for a nice quiet and relaxing weekend in Torquay, the Hotel Balmoral fitted the bill exactly.
We had a nice room overlooking the lovely garden with the sea in the background, tea and coffee supplied with a kettle in the room.
We opted for the half board deal which in this case Included a cream tea on arrival.
The staff were very friendly, professional and informative, they made you feel at home and very welcome.
The food was fantastic, plenty of choice.
We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Torquay.

  • Visit To Torquay

Both the service received and the food provided were excellent. We were made very welcome and I have no hesitation in recommending the hotel to anyone visiting Torquay. We discovered that many of the guests staying at the same time were repeat visitors, some for many years.

  • Nice friendly hotel

Very nice stay from october 5th to 8th of october 2017
    staff very friendly and helpful
food was of 5 star quality
hotel was very clean and tidy with lovely lawns and gardens
would have given 5 star for the whole experience except our room was very small and compact but this would not deter ourselves from visiting again and recommending the hotel to friends

  • Total value for money

In our 8th? Year of visiting. This a meeting place for all our family. We are made to feel so welcome, excellent standard, lovely staff and delightful food.
Rooms cosy, teas n coffees, freeview, WiFi and comfy beds with 2 pillows!
    Very relaxed atmosphere….love it!!
Local to many attractions and beach on the doorstep.
A total little gem. Well worth a visit!!

  • Nice independent family run hotel

We could only get their “Cosy” Double Room as the larger rooms were all booked (which was a pity as they only carried a small additional charge). However, it had a nice view over the garden and sea, although the en-suite was a bit too “cosy”. Very clean. This was a 2-night Dinner/B+B weekend package at the end of Sept 2017.

Service was fast. Breakfast was excellent with a lot of choices. This is in a quiet location close to a small beach.

  • Short Break from Thursday to Sunday

We had booked for half board and this proved to be a very good option as the meals were very well presented, good choices and excellent served by very pleasant and friendly staff where nothing was too much trouble. The room was very small, but extremely clean with a good view over the large garden and a slight seaview. Unfortunately the hotel was not full and there was no evening entertainment so the bar closed at 11pm and as it was about 15 minute walk into town with no buses we decided not to walk in the dark. On arrival we were made to feel very welcome and the television in our room would not work after we had eaten it has been sorted. I would recommend this hotel for people wanting a good value for money break in a clean friendly hotel with excellent food.

  • 4 Night B&B

We stayed here from 22nd Sept.
The manager was very polite and helpful.
Our room was small but it did state it was a cosy room, so had expected it to be small.
In the morning we enjoyed a lovely breakfast, served by polite, efficient staff who were very cheerful.
Also we enjoyed an evening meal, which we thoroughly enjoyed. The food was cook and presented very well.
We loved the hotel and found it relaxing and we felt de stressed straight away.
There were a lot of people that we spoke to that had returned on numerous occasions, which, to me, speaks volumes.
We have booked to go again next year and asked about the larger rooms. We were offered to see one, that was similar, as this one had been vacated and cleaned.
I thought this was a very nice gesture.
The bus stop was right outside the hotel so we used that for most of the days we were there.
The buses run all over the place from Torquay, so we were able to get to a few different places.
The last bus back from Torquay to the hotel runs at 5.07pm but you can get a taxi for about £4.50.
Buses from the hotel do not run, at all, on a Sunday.
A nice lunch at the restaurant on Meadfoot beach, on the Sunday was very nice.
All in all a great few days away.
Our thanks to all the staff of the hotel for making this holiday break which was for our 50th wedding anniversary, a very special one.

  • Service par excellence

We booked a pre-theatre meal for a group of 12 friends at The Balmoral, after local friends had recommended it.
The management were most accommodating, agreeing to an early sitting.
The staff were attentive without ever being intrusive.
The food was just excellent, a good choice, classily presented, very well prepared.
Full marks, what else can we say!

  • Another Excellent Stay

We returned to the Balmoral after a gap of two years. We had booked a cosy room and it was. Things were a little tight which was why the room had only a small double bed. The room was well fitted out and some of the furniture had seen better days. There was a flat screen television with a good choice of channels. The free WiFi throughout the hotel was excellent. There was a lovely garden/ side sea view from the window.

Breakfasts were excellent including a good range of cooked options. The five course dinners were of a good standard. The menu changed daily and there were various options for each course. We thought the standard of food had perhaps dropped slightly from two years ago and service in the restaurant was a bit variable.

Staff were friendly and generally efficient.

The hotel is in a quieter part of town near a lovely local beach. The centre is a 15-20 minutes walk away up and down a steepish hill. An hourly bus service stops just outside the hotel. It stops late afternoon and does not run at all on Sundays.
We can highly recommend this hotel and hope to return in the future. It is worth mentioning that the hotel has larger rooms which are not that more expensive. Unfortunately these had already sold out when we booked.

  • Room number 15 is a very spacious family room

Lovely hotel and very helpful staff. We stayed 4 nights on a bed and breakfast basis, the breakfast menu was very varied and all freshly cooked. Room was very clean. Location was ideal for us very close to the beach and about a 10 minute walk to the town centre

  • A very welcoming hotel in a nice location

You never know until you arrive exactly what to expect. We could only go by what we saw online in terms of the description of the hotel having never been to Torquay before. Would definitely stay again.

  • I have just had a 3 night stay with my sister and elderly father. I am writing to thank you for a lovely 3 days. The staff could not have done more for us and in particular the restaurant staff were extremely polite, helpful and ‘warm’. The food was amazing and I must commend the chef for looking after me and my wheat intolerance so well; every meal I had a great choice (which is so rare for gluten free) and my meals were delicious! I actually felt ‘normal’ which is not usually the case as I often have to put up with fruit salad, melon etc. Thank you, I will be back!

Gorgeous hotel. Room was a bit small but it was booked last minute and “cosy” room. Staff were fantastic and helpful. gardens beautiful with Sun loungers, very relaxing and breakfast was amazing. Excellent quality food. Will definitely go again. Great location short walk to harbour and bars.

Really pleasant stay in quiet location! Lovely breakfast. Well worth a stay! Kindly fitted us in for a one night break in busy season which a lot of hotels won’t do! Pretty gardens with sea views. Lovely lounge to relax in,

  • Returners

We have stayed at The Balmoral on several occasions and have always had a warm welcome. The food on this visit was up to the usual high standard and we enjoyed it.
The service in the dining room was also very good with friendly waiters.
The hotel is in a lovely setting and ideal for Meadfoot beach.

  • Pleasant Hotel

My partner and I went here for a 3 night stay to celebrate her birthday. I thought it would be a good idea to get some flowers but left it until the day before we went to ask the hotel to arrange it. They provided a beautiful bouquet at reasonable cost in that short time. The hotel was in very good condition but the room (no 11) was small and very warm. The manager provided a fan but couldn’t do anything about the room size. The en-suite bathroom was also small but the shower was good which is very important.
The location of the hotel was ok with a twenty minute walk to the harbour and a five minute walk to a nice little beach ( a bit stony) which had a super little cafe which did very nice sandwiches freshly prepared.
Taxi fare to the Barbour was about £4.50 which we did a couple of times as it was raining.
Bar, lounge and restaurant were all nice and comfortable and the best thing of all was the food was very good and the service exemplary.
If the weather is good there is a lovely garden to relax in.
All in all a very good experience

  • Relaxed

First visit to this hotel and we were presented with a pleasant looking place situated in a lovely quiet road only 200 metres from the beach and sea.
There was only parking for about 10 cars on the grounds, but we managed to get a good space upon arrival. However, a different story when we returned from a meal in the town later on as the only space left was a bit cramped!
Inside was a relaxing and pleasant reception area, the grounds were beautiful and the bar and dining room excellent.
The staff were friendly and very accommodating.

Overall, it was a lovely stay and I would definitely visit the hotel again, but would choose a different room. I must mention, the bed was so comfortable.

  • Relaxed, good quality stay

Myself & 4 other friends stayed here for the weekend. We were greeted by a warm welcome and we’re pleasantly surprised by the size and the decor of the hotel. The rooms were clean and a perfect size. I would definitely return.

  • Wonderful holiday

We booked a weekend break, and normally stay at the Grand in Torquay, we could not believe the service we received at the Balmoral and would opt for this Hotel everytime it was second to none, the hotel was welcoming and the staff and management were both informative and helpful.
We will certainly be going back in the near future.

  • Good Value For Torquay

My colleague and I stayed at Balmoral on Wednesday 12th for use as B&B and overall we found our stay very good with a very warm welcoming on arrival.. Our bedroom (Room 18) was spacious, good TV, Tea and Coffee , good Wi-Fi, but no tissues. The bathroom en-suite was good inc shower.
Having arrived at about 4 o’clock we decided to have a drink outside in their lovely gardens after walking through the lounge/bar area which was also relaxing. As we were eating in Torquay, we noticed the Bus 64 every hour but we missed the last at 4.45 and took a taxi £4.50.
When we arrived we was able to park our car in their car park and the main problem is that with both our mobile phones we found it very hard to get a signal throughout the hotel.

  • Hidden gem

“This really was a lovely stay. Was here on business. Usually stay in chained hotels while travelling but wanted to try something different, and wasn’t disappointed. Staff were friendly and helpful at check in with great knowledge of the local area. Room compact but comfortable. Slightly hot and no air con but the windows opened wide so not too much of a problem. Breakfast cooked to order and was fresh and tasty. Amazing views from the Garden overlooking the sea and local area. The only downside was the car park is slightly chaotic with people blocking people in and having to wait to find the owners. I would recommend parking in the local car park (2 min walk) or the street outside. Overall a lovely seaside stay.”

  • Long weekend break

“This is our fourth visit to this super hotel. We are 10 friends who meet once a year for a golfing weekend. Venues change most years but we have been drawn back to Torquay in the main to stay at The Hotel Balmoral. The rooms are basic, however, this is more than made for by helpful friendly staff, great food and a lovely bar serving a good selection of beers and spirits. There is also a very nice garden to relax in. Will we be back for a fifth time, you bet”.

  • Hotel Balmoral is a little gem!

“We stayed for 3 nights and will definitely return. Staff were very pleasant and we were treated like royalty. The food is absolutely delicious and we had entertainment over 2 nights. The surrounding area is quiet, calm and relaxing. It makes such a difference when the staff are nice and I cannot praise them enough. Thank you Hotel Balmoral”.

  • Very pleasant surroundings and staff

“Very nicely situated hotel, lovely gardens. Room was quite dark as the window was very small for the size of the room but the room was clean and the shower was efficient. Excellent choice at breakfast and very polite staff”.

  • ANNIVERSARY DELIGHT

“My wife & I decided to celebrate our anniversary with a quaint trip to Torquay, our friends accompanied us to the Balmoral Hotel which my wife had already visited in early March with others. She was so impressed she booked in 3 months in advance.
My first impression was small and quirky, which I suppose it is, but that’s what most privately owned hotels are these days. Don’t expect Premier Inn standardisation, feast on the individuality of this wonderful hotel.
Yes the car park is small but there is plenty of parking off road, you have to walk 20 yards!
After a no bother check in we found our rooms which were large enough (Nos 1 & 23) with plenty of wardrobe and drawer space, on suite, tea & coffee, TV, the very welcome free Wi-Fi and an enormous comfy bed (a bus ride to kiss her goodnight.)
After pre-dinner drinks we had the first of our 5 course dinners – WOW! I am a fussy eater & like my food! but the quality and quantity of all courses were too much for me, absolutely stuffed to the brim at the end. We didn’t make the cream tea in the afternoon – I really don’t think it’s possible!!
Entertainment in the form of a singer on Friday night and singer/comedian/keyboard on Saturday night was not that bad and it added to the quaintness of the hotel.
A full English breakfast for the 2 following days set us up for long days walking and seeing some excellent views just outside the hotel on the coastal walk.
On the Sunday we cleared our room by 1030 only to be told that a further 4 course lunch would be served at 1300 if you required. We had the lunch but I don’t think I will be eating anything else for a fortnight!
The reception/bar staff were very polite and attentive as were the 2 girl waitresses and especially Craig who couldn’t do enough for you during meal timings.
I whole heartedly recommend this hotel. Thank you Balmoral for a very enjoyable weekend, we will definitely return”.

  • 4 night break for the wife and I

“The bed was comfortable and we got a good nights sleep. Rooms were clean as you would expect and we enjoyed our stay.
Food was good and offered a good choice to suit most peoples needs, 5 course, for £ 23.95 is very good.
Pebble beach just 2 minutes walk down the slope from the Hotel, where they have a small cafe and ice cream.
All in all, a nice stay and I would go back there in the future”.

  • Good

“Very nice receptionist and waitress, very good service and atmosphere.
I would definitely recommend the hotel because location is good – walking distance to the beach and city centre – and staff is nice and helpful and these are most important things. The hotel has a nice garden”.

  • Good place to spend a few days – excellent breakfast

‘We enjoyed our stay at the Balmoral. It’s close enough to the city centre, beaches, coastal trail and located in a nice area. The room (Cosy Double) was nice and comfortable – although no tissues were provided. It was also a bit warm in the room. But these were small things, really. The staff were very friendly and breakfast was excellent. Various choices for cooked breakfast (Full English, Eggs Benedict, Pancakes, Kipper, Smoked Salmon). We tried quite a few, and they were all scrumptious. We also spent some time in the back garden, which was just lovely. All in all a good place to stay’.

  • Just great!

We were a group of 16 in our 20s and 30s. The staff was really friendly and helpful. The hotel offers common areas to relax / party altogether, which was a huge benefit to us. The coast in within 3 minutes walk from the hotel.
The key point for me were breakfasts, which are just amazing! Everyday you can choose from the list of approx. 7 different breakfasts of a really good quality.
All my friends enjoyed our stay there very much and I am quite sure I will come back in the future.

Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, accommodating any extra needs of the party. I cannot speak Highly enough of the Hotel. Also a special cream tea on arrival.

  • Fabulous Short Break ~ Highly Recommended!

‘Hotel Balmoral exceeded our expectations in every respect. Located above Meadfoot Beach in the premier part of Torquay, very tranquil & picturesque…
Exceptionally well run by a very friendly, efficient & helpful team!
The landscaped gardens are exquisite, a perfect sun~trap with views over Meadfoot Cove which is just a 3 minute walk away similarly a 15 minute walk over the hill brings you to the Harbour/Marina with many bars & restaurants & the town centre.
The Balmoral is a beautifully proportioned Victorian building with much character. We stayed in a ‘cozy’ double room which was perfectly suited to us very clean throughout with garden & partial sea views too.
Breakfast in the sunlit dining room was amazing, a fabulous choice from buffet to the well cooked & presented choices too served by really friendly staff.
We rate the Balmoral 10/10 & will definitely return!’

The staff are brilliant, friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The food was superb and plentiful and our compliments to the chef, kitchen staff and waiting staff who made our weekend perfect also the bar prices were very reasonable. • Really nice hotel in a fantastic location

Room was nice and had been recently redecorated to a high standard, although the bathroom was very small. The location is lovely – 1 minutes walk from Meadfoot beach and among some other beautiful properties.
The staff were all lovely but particular mention for the waiting staff who were all fantastic.
Overall a good stay and very good value for money if you take the 2 night DBB deal.

  • Lovely place beautiful and peaceful

‘We stayed in one of the cosy rooms ,it was cosy but very pleasant and clean beds were very comfortable .We overlooked the beautiful garden with a view of the sea which was stunning.
There is a bar which we did not use as we only stayed one night
Breakfast was very good with ample choice staff very efficient and friendly.
Good sized car park at the front of the Hotel but if it is full there is unrestricted parking on the road just outside .
Would recommend this place and would stay again for sure .’

  • Very enjoyable short break

‘My husband and I had a comfortable double room with a stunning view of the garden with distant sea views through the trees. My mother’s double room was situated on the ground floor, for ease of access and had a large bathroom with double shower.

Excellent food and customer service throughout our stay with the added bonus of a fantastic singer named Steve Carr performing one evening.

We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this friendly relaxed hotel!’

  • Lovely food, very friendly and efficient staff who go above and beyond to help customers have a peaceful and restless stay

‘This is the 2nd time we have visited this cosy, friendly hotel and certainly not the last. We stayed 10/4/17 to 14/4/17 to celebrate a big birthday and as soon as I walked into the hotel I felt at home. We had a sea view room that was really comfortable if a little smaller than the room we had last visit but had all that was required. The service that Craig and his wife (sorry don’t know her name) provided at meal times was excellent and very friendly and always seem to appear at the right time to take away used plates and return with the next course truly an asset to any hotel. The hotel is well placed for Torquay beaches and shops but require a short bus ride or car journey. I forget to mention the barman and all round assistant (another that I don’t know his name sorry) who again is very helpful and friendly and fills in for other staff members who are on leave. This hotel is very well placed and very reasonable even more so when there is an offer on. So if you’re looking for a break or even a little don’t miss this little gem’.

Attentive, friendly staff, delicious food – worth paying for the 5-course evening meal and breakfast was great!
    Nice bar and lounge area.
Quite a walk to and from town but there is a bus stop just outside’.

  • Weekend Break

“Booked weekend stay 17th to 19th March, made very welcome on arrival.
As part of booking a cream tea was included which we accepted after settling into our room which we really enjoyed, after we took a stroll to local beach for some sea air. We returned to our room to get ready for evening meal, had a drink in bar beforehand and went through to restaurant.
Both had eaten to excess due to superb menu and quality and had to have a rest, had brilliant breakfast Saturday and great evening meal
On Sunday after another really enjoyable breakfast packed away our belongings, we had a Sunday lunch and left fully sated and very happy.”

  • “A pleasant stay”

I was very happy with our stay at the Hotel Balmoral. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel welcome. The room was cosy, clean and had a good view of the sea that was only a short walk away. We had a 5 course dinner in their restaurant which was satisfyingly delicious. The breakfast served in the morning was good too. Considering the cheap price per night, I was not expecting it to be as lovely as it actually was! I certainly will remember this hotel if I decide to visit Torquay again in the future.

  • Torquay Idyll

“This is the fourth Torquay hotel I’ve tried this week in this price range, and it knocks spots off the others. Set in a quiet-but-somehow-still-central corner of Torquay overlooking Meadfoot Beach, the location is awesome (just look at some of the photos), and the hotel itself is clean, well-maintained and tastefully decorated. The food is also good (some rate it excellent, but I’ve only tried the brekkie and Sunday lunch so I don’t know about the evening menu) and it has one of the best little hotel bars in the town. There is a sort of warmth about the place. And the staff are all naturals.

All in all, this is one of those rare hotels where one can actually relax and enjoy. I’ll certainly make a return visit next time I’m in town.”

  • “Superb staff and food”

Just returned from a Friday to Sunday break. The staff at this hotel are all amazing and are so professional and you are treated with the respect that is fitting in a five star hotel. The chef deserves to be recognised for the excellent meals he prepares. Breakfast is wonderful too with the best jams, butter coffee, cereals etc. None of the usual cheap substitutions as well as a good range of cooked breakfasts. The hotel is so generous in feeding their guests and even included a complementary Sunday lunch. I expected it to be something small but this turned out to be a four course full Sunday lunch. Absolutely wonderful and all with perfect waiter service.! It certainly helped us with the long journey home. This is our second visit to this hotel and it was just as amazing the first time on a Monday to Friday break. The beds are very comfortable and I cannot believe somebody complained about the beds in a previous review. The only negatives are that the rooms are a little on the small side and the floor boards creek but its an old house so you have to expect that. You don’t spend much time in your room so size really doesn’t matter. They have a really comfy lounge and reception area. They had live music at the weekend which was middle of the road and easy listening. I would highly recommend this hotel.

  • “Nice place, superb staff”

We stayed for Christmas and were extremely well looked after. The staff could not do enough for any of the guests and were always friendly, polite and helpful without exception. We are vegetarian and were treated to something special from the kitchen every day.
The cosy double was clean and tidy and as described.

  • “2 Night TWIXMAS break”

The room was described as Cozy Sea View. It was quite small but had everything we needed plus more. The shower room is also quite small but again is fully functional and with excellent quality shower gel and hand wash. The towels are large and very clean. The bed itself is very comfortable and the tea and coffee making supplies and biscuits are generous. The sea view was beautiful across the lovely gardens and over Torbay. The meals are the thing that makes this hotel so special. Breakfasts were fantastic, individually cooked and piping hot and an extremely good selection. But it’s the dinner which is amazing. Five course dinners are the norm and the quality of the meat and the portion sizes are first rate. No mushy tasteless veg here, everything perfectly cooked. Great dessert selection as well and also cheese & biscuits. It is obvious that this is a hidden treasure of a hotel with loads of repeat business guests as the waiting staff knew many of them personally. The staff are a delight. They seem very happy with their employment and certainly go out of their way to make guests very comfortable. Would I go back there? You bet – we are going to book up for mid 2017. Oh I forgot, a bus stop right outside the hotel not 25 yards away (no 64) takes you right into Torquay Town Centre – perfect. Leave the car and let the bus take the strain.

Best Christmas I have had in years, (ha ha no preparing or clearing up). Didn’t expect too much, OMG it was brilliant I would give the menus and staff 6*. The 4 night break far exceeded my expectations. Have already booked in for next Christmas. Anyone reading this review, please bear in mind we were all “silver tops” but during the evening entertainment you wouldn’t think so!!!!!! Christmas 2017 you might have to go on a waiting list!!

  • “Fabulous Christmas”

We went here for Christmas largely because of the large number of positive reviews this hotel had attracted. We weren’t disappointed. Fabulous service, fabulous food and a warm friendly atmosphere. The clientele were all elderly and most had been there numerous times before. Everybody talked to you and made you feel welcome. We felt like one big happy family. Already booked for next Christmas. The staff were so attentive and friendly.

  • “Amazing food”

Stayed at the Balmoral for a girls long weekend and had the best time. The staff were attentive, warm and friendly. The rooms were comfortable. One of our party had to have their room changed and it was done without a problem. The cream tea was delightful after a busy day shopping and the 5 course dinner was delicious. Great choices and also great vegetarian options, which was much appreciated by the veggies among us and a Christmas lunch before we departed on the Sunday was a treat before our journey home. Entertainment on the Friday night was a singer called Steve Parr, who was hilarious and really entertained everyone with his stories in between the songs which sounded amazing. A really enjoyable weekend.

  • “Weekend Break”

The hotel was clean, the facilities were good, the room was cosy, but the wallpaper was very busy, everything worked in the room. The staff were friendly, polite and attentive. The food was good, maybe a touch more seasoning. We had a lovely Christmas lunch. As we another couple did not leave on the Sunday evening we were provided with a platter of sandwiches with garnishes for our evening meal which was adequate as the lunch was three courses. The hotel is located a short walk from Meadfoot beach and about 20 to 30 minute walk from Torquay Harbour, and is a quiet location. We enjoyed our weekend break

Ianfarno, Alfreton, United Kingdom — 14th December, 2016
  • “Pre Christmas break”

We booked a cosy room late and had no opportunity to choose a ‘better’ room. However, the room was as described on the website so we were not disappointed. That said, although the room was perfectly comfortable, we’d probably choose a room with a view if we visited again.
Food and service were better than anticipated and bar prices were reasonable.
With a 20 minute walk to Kents Caves, a 20 minute walk to the town and quay, and a five minute walk to the sea we were extremely satisfied with the location. For us a key requirement from a weekend break is to park the car and not use it for the duration.
We have already recommended this hotel to other family members.

  • “Brilliant hotel for a short break”

We stayed here with a large group of friends over four nights. I cannot praise the staff enough.. they went out of their way to make us all feel welcome and the service at mealtimes was brilliant. The standard of food was very good and beautifully presented on HOT plates, which is to be commended. Although the hotel is a short distance from Torquay centre, there is a bus stop outside the hotel or a stiff uphill walk before dropping down into town. I would certainly recommend the hotel and would happily return next year.

Excellent hotel with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, excellent food with very attentive waiter and waitress service. Well stocked bar with an array of spirit and ales. Nice quiet location and very good value for money, we have been coming to the Balmora hotel for six years now and we have always had a pleasant stay.

  • “Summary of an excellent experience”

Found this hotel on the internet and thought it was too good to be true. How wrong can you be? We really enjoyed our break and would certainly be looking to visit again. The food was excellent and plentiful and the staff were so friendly and helpful. Very cosy and nice touches such as cream tea on arrival and coffee after dinner in the lounge enabled us to chat to other guests which was nice. Near to home in Plymouth but well worth having a nice relaxing break. I would recommend this hotel.

  • “Excellent small friendly hotel”

It’s our second visit ,the first being over the New Year a couple of years ago.Since then they have decorated the public rooms making them warm and welcoming. Food is excellant with plenty of choice . We stayed in the standard double room , large enough and with a comfy bed. Staff are very friendly and many of the guests return several times a year ,for weekend breaks etc. It is only a short walk to the centre of Torquay or there is a bus stop outside . There also a beach within a couple of minutes of the hotel , Would have no worries about staying there again

  • “October break”

This is a lovely hotel situated in a beautiful location not too far from the centre of Torquay. This is the 3rd time we have stayed here and it is still great value for money. The rooms are clean and comfortable with tea and coffee making facilities too. Hairdryer in room as well Toiletries for bathtime provided also. Clean towels when requested. Restaurant absolutely fantastic with a tremendous choice for breakfast and evening meals. Superbly cooked and plentiful. Staff very friendly and helpful. We would recommend this hotel for a break away in beautiful Devon. Lots of attractions nearby such as Paignton Zoo, Widecombe, Dartmoor, Babbacombe model village, Cockington, Brixham, Totnes and Newton Abbot.

  • “Relaxing weekend break”

We stayed at this hotel very recently and experienced exceptional care from all the staff which made this one of the most enjoyable and memorable breaks away. The food was delicious and the menu catered very well for my gluten and dairy free dietary requirement. Would hope to return to this hotel again soon and would definitely recommend this comfortable hotel as a lovely place to stay.

  • “Delightful Long Weekend Break”

This hotel was recommended to us by friends, and we certainly were not disappointed. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome. This is a great Hotel, very quiet and relaxing with a lovely garden at the back. The rooms are varied and beautifully furnished and there is one to suit everybody. The food is very good and the staff are very friendly and attentive, nothing is too much trouble. The entertainment on the Friday and Saturday night were of a very high standard. We actually ended up spending an extra night and we have already booked up for another visit in March 2017, whereby we have actually chosen our sea view room. The package deals are certainly worth looking at. Would definately recommend.

  • “Another lovely meal”

Love this hotel the staff are so friendly and accommodating. As non residents we booked an evening meal. It is five courses and they were all very nice and not too huge. The service was excellent and it was good value. We then adjourned to the lounge with coffee and were entertained by a male vocalist who was very watchable.

  • “Very enjoyable out of season short break”

The hotel is very comfortable. The room we had was well equipped and clean.
The food was good and the staff were very attentive. The hotel is situated a ten minute walk away from the busy town, above the beautiful quiet Meadfoot Bay. The coastal cliff walks at the bottom of the peaceful garden are magical. I can thoroughly recommend this hotel and hope to return in the future.

  • “Most enjoyable short break”

Booked this hotel last minute as we had heard good reports and wanted a relaxing break away. We had a premium room on the second floor. The room had everything we needed and there was a full sized bath as well as a shower in the bathroom. Very pleasant lounge and gardens although the incredibly strong winds meant we weren’t able to sit outside. We had booked half board, the breakfasts were excellent with everything cooked to order, a good choice of cereal and fruit etc and more toast and tea/coffee if wanted. The evening meals couldn’t be faulted, 5 courses and coffee served at your table or in the lounge as you wished. The service was polite and attentive, far better than we have received in some other higher rated hotels. The bar prices were very reasonable and many of the other guests were repeat visitors. Hotel is situated near a small local beach and there is an hourly bus service into town from just outside. The car park is fairly small but there is roadside parking and a public car park nearby. Very good value for money.

  • We knew in advance that our recent weekend break was going to be great value for money, but the reality of the actual experience was way beyond simple value The whole team, from reception to departure made us feel comfortable and relaxed and they individually went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed.
The rooms were excellent, they were clean bright airy and well presented, the food was as good as any of the local hotels we have stayed at and better than most with service and attention at the highest level, and the entertainment package brilliant with the performers actually trying to engage with the guests rather than just going through their routine. and of course there were the little extras, unnecassary but still much appreciated such as the arrival cream teas and the departing Sunday Lunch, WOW..
All in all an experience not to be missed or talked down, if you have never stayed at the Balmoral before then you have really honestly missed something special.

  • “Weekend getaway at The Hotel Balmoral”

My daughter and I recently visited the Balmoral Hotel for a weekend break and we weren’t disappointed. We had a lovely warm welcome from Alex (and Rolo), who was very hospitable and helpful. Our room was lovely and clean, just thought that the bathroom could do with updating, but still very clean. The food was very good and the staff were very friendly and always had a smile. Loved the location, being a short walk from the beach and about 15/20min walk into Torquay town centre. Overall, we had an enjoyable, restful and comfortable stay and hope to come back and visit again next year!

  • “Elegant and inviting”

Our room was cosy, but still made a very pleasant stay.
The staff were very good and nothing seemed to be to much trouble for them.
The hotels breakfast had a good range for all tastes. Its garden was a great place to relax and rest in a peaceful setting.
From the Hotel we walked in town in about 12 minuets. Up hill on the way back so allow about 20mins!
The only downside was, its small car park. Get there early for a spot!
The Hotel is very well presented and I would definately recommend it to other travellers.

  • “Enjoyable stay”

We spent a couple of nights at the Balmoral in early August very good location for the beach and access to the coastal footpath recommend the walk to Babbacombe and Oddicombe beach with at stop at Anstey Cove. Delightful and spacious gardens overlooking the sea just nice to chill out with a cold beer, bar and lounge area are also well set out complimenting the gardens. It is a brisk 10 minute walk into the town centre or if you prefer there is a bus stop immediately outside the Hotel.
We paid for an upgrade to a premium room which was clean, tidy and quite spacious… Staff excellent nothing too much trouble polite, helpful and friendly. Although we did not have an evening meal we heard complimentary reports and the breakfast was good. Overall an enjoyable stay in a very pleasant location.

  • “we keep going back”

We found this hotel a couple of years ago and have been back many times. Some of the rooms have great views of the beautifully well kept gardens and sea which is only a short walk away (where you will find a great little beach cafe run by very friendly people) the breakfast are good and the evening menu is varied enough to suit most people. The staff are always friendly and pleasant, on our last visit a few weeks ago it coincided with my birthday and my jam rolly Polly turned up with a candle and a verse of happy birthday this place really is a little gem and improves every time we visit. Can’t wait until we go again

  • “Good Location with very friendly staff”

Good local breakfast, nice rooms,.. For dinner they offer a good choice from four different alternatives for each course. After five evenings we look forward to sitting down for Dinner still.
The wonderful terasse and the beautiful garden invite to take the evening tea after Dinner outside.
We recommend this hotel if you would like to spend some days in a British atmosphere.

  • “A peaceful Stay and fed like a king, Very tranquil.”

We found the Balmoral Hotel on line and made a booking direct, as this was a last minute decision to have a break. On arrival we were booked in and given our room, cosy and very clean. They staff and management were very helpful to make our stay as pleasant as possible. The food at mealtimes was excellent plenty of choice and piping hot which I always ask for, I was given a warning that the plates are very hot. Located only a five minute walk down to Meadfoot beach it is very quiet and peaceful with a large garden good for a relaxing stay, We enjoyed our stay because there were no quiz nights or Bingo to occupy our time just good conversation with new made friends. Thank you Balmoral you fitted the bill just right.

I’ve just returned from a weeks break in Torquay at this memorable hotel. This Victorian building is beautiful, the location is fabulous, just two minutes walk to the beach, and may I recommend the walk into Torquay along the front, idyllic. The staff are amazing, so friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble, always delighted to help you enjoy your stay. The food in the restaurant is first class, fabulous choices and superbly served. I’ve already booked for September!!

  • “Sad to Leave”

The Hotel Balmoral was a lovely place to stay, eat and drink and we were very fortunate that the weather was very good too making this feel like a real holiday.

The staff were universally friendly, polite and helpful and the food choices were very good. Sitting in the lovely garden with glimpses of the sea through the trees on a sunny day with a nice cold drink in hand was about as good as it gets.

We stayed in a cosy double and would upgrade to a premium room next time as is not much more and gives more space. Our room was advertised as ‘cosy’ though so I can’t pick fault there. Devon has much to shout about and for us Hotel Balmoral is one of those things. We’ll be back.

  • “A great find! ”

Can not fault this beautifully located hotel. Every member of staff was welcoming, friendly and couldn’t do anything more to make our stay what it was…which was perfect! Our room was clean and tidy with a lovely view over the garden with sea views too. Breakfast and dinner were brilliant and service exceptional. Only downside was that we were only there 2 nights, we didn’t want to leave. Recommend this hotel 100%, and we will definitely be returning for longer next time.

After a long journey from the Midlands we arrived to a friendly welcome. We we shown to our comfortable room where we we able to get a welcome drink. At dinner we were greeted and shown to our table for the length of our stay. The five course dinner was excellent, we didn’t make the cheese and biscuits. Breakfast was just as good plenty to eat and the service was excellent they couldn’t do enough for you.

  • “Very Clean and Staff very helpful”

The breakfast were a variety of fresh fruit or cereal or Yogurts followed by a wide choice from the main breakfast menu although the portions were on the small size it was sufficient to set you up for the day with the toast and marmalade

The waiter always wore white cotton gloves when serving you main breakfast plate which was nice to see as many of the top hotels do not do this anymore all of the staff were very polite and respectful of the guests needs in particular Alex the manager.

Great time will go back again when down that area.

  • “Very English seaside hotel with lovely staff”

This is a lovely English seaside hotel in a quiet part of Torquay.

.. the public areas were lovely with a large lounge that opens out onto a decent sized garden with tables and chairs. A separate cosy and well stocked bar, and a good sized restaurant. The food for both dinner and breakfast was very good, and you couldn’t fault the very attentive staff. The kept a low profile, but were there the moment you needed something.
There was also live entertainment for the two evening we were there.

Just got back after a stay at the Balmoral Hotel, Torquay, what a break, the staff are superb, so accommodating, for Alex the manager nothing is to much trouble, tasks are performed with smiles and politeness, Steve and Stella the owners make sure you have everything you require, as did Sean the head chef who saw to your dietary needs. The food both at breakfast and dinner are mouthwatering with plenty of choice and combinations, and served graciously with care by the waiting staff. Our room was great, with all mod cons.Want a break, don’t hesitate, it’s the Balmoral Hotel for you.

  • “Summer special weekend”

Ten of us rolled up to this lovely family run hotel and it was just like going home for a family reunion. The staff treat you like old friends rather than just another punter. Some of the larger hotels could learn a lot about service from the Balmoral…

On Friday evening the entertainment of Johnathan Marks was one of the best we have ever seen and would welcome him back anytime.

The food was, as always, exceptional and for Sunday lunch they provided us with the mother of all buffets. A great idea for a hot sunny Sunday afternoon.

Thank you Hotel Balmoral, for a really excellent weekend.

  • “Excellent stay”

We have just returned from a great weekend at Hotel Balmoral. Everything was excellent, the food, staff and accommodation. The location must be one of the best areas of Torquay, tucked away from the town but within walking distance and on a bus route which is just a 6 minute ride! I would particularly like to thank the extremely effective and friendly staff in the restaurant and the chefs who produced a range of quality food. Well done to everyone involved with running this hotel to such a high standard and we look forward to coming again one day.

  • “Yearly visit”

Just returned from our annual knees up at The Hotel Balmoral. Yet again they did us proud even doing a special menu for our fancy dress night? The food is excellent every night and a good choice for breakfast. Every time we go, the hotel has improved, this time the bedrooms my friend and I occupied had been given a makeover with brand new bathrooms and delightful decor. Meadfoot Beach is a stones throw away and the Harbour and shops walking distance. The bus stop is right outside the door for those not able to walk. It has a lovely lawn with tables for just relaxing in the sun . Thank you Balmoral, see you next year.

  • “Another amazing stay”

We have run out of words to describe what a fabulous time we have had these past few days. Super, lovely, great, marvellous, amazing, terrific…..none seem worthy of the praise everyone has been stating. We have had the most splendiferous time, once again, and your attention to detail has been outstanding. You will know that we were particularly impressed with your making our fancy dress evening so special with the food and music to match….such a lovely touch. Thank you so much for making our away days the success it always is.
Already we are getting enquiries about next year’s dates, so we will have to get our heads around that one.
Once again….thank you to all of the gang for your continued efforts at making our stay wonderful. We really appreciate it.

  • “Four day break”

Very good Hotel. Clean, large lounges, spacious bedrooms, brilliant food…

When we arrived we were put in room 3 which was overlooking the gardens very nice…

But it had only a shower and my wife doesn’t do showers so we were shown a room with a bath and shower which we readily excepted just as good as room 3…

Nothing seemed to be any trouble and we have been very pleased with everything…

Breakfast was very good with plenty of variety and dinner lovely 5 course meals no need to go hungry always a good selection…

We went with a group and the Saturday night the group had organised a Caribbean night, so the chef did a Caribbean menu which was as always brilliant…

Cannot fault Hotel or staff and would thoroughly recommend it…

I have stayed here probably for the past 10 years and every year seems to improve! You get what you pay for, rooms are standard and adequate. Food is great and the staff are always polite and friendly. If you are looking for somewhere small and simple, the Balmoral is the place to be!

This hotel gives very, very good service at competitive price. The decor is pleasant, reflecting it’s name. Evening meal has a choice of dishes. The main courses offer meat, fish and veggie, all of very good quality. The staff are friendly and helpful. For the price, you will not find better.

  • “Well worth a visit ”

After being let down by another hotel at the last minute my newly married wife and I managed to get a room at the Balmoral and glad we did. Now it was a standard room so I wasn’t expecting much but it suited what we needed very much and the full English breakfast is excellent.

  • “A gem of a hotel”

Not too big and not too small. We had a room with walk in shower. It was a reasonable size and cheerfully decorated. The hotel has a huge drawing room looking out onto lovely gardens with a view of the sea in the distance. Its a small walk down hill to the beach where there is a beach cafe and toilets. The food at the hotel was very good and on our three night deal was varied every night.

  • “July 2015. Second visit.”

Lovely private hotel with individual service and high level of attention to customers. Helpful staff with our baggage, and very helpful in finding the right room for us over the phone. We loved room 5 with its garden view and nice décor. Amusing and cheerful staff at breakfast and dinner, and incredibly good value dinner, although too much food for us to eat all. . Nice terrace and garden area to take coffee or lunch for those times when you just want to relax and unwind – which is exactly what we wanted.

  • “Post wedding stay”

I stayed at this hotel with my husband after our wedding. The hotel is in a lovely location, walking distance to Meadfoot beach and Ilsham green. The hotel is clean has lovely comfortable decor and a beautiful garden. We had a great room with a sea-view and were even treated to complimentary roses to congratulate us on our wedding. They offer a choice of breakfasts so you are not restricted to just the usual full English or cereals. ALL the staff were lovely friendly and helpful.

  • “Fab – Fun- Great Value Weekend”

Just returned from a weekend stay – even the dreadful weather couldn’t spoil it!!

The Hotel is clean, the staff really friendly & cheerful and the food excellent. Exceptional value – Cream Tea on arrival, 2 Cooked Breakfasts (also Cereal etc.), 5 Course evening meals on Fri & Sat (lots of choice) and Sunday lunch to finish with before your journey home. Bar (reasonably priced) and evening entertainment brill.

We’ll definitely be back – couldn’t appreciate the views and the grounds this time – all a bit windy & grey – but would imagine stunning in Spring & Summer.

    Definitely recommend. *****

  • “Excellent start to the New Year”

The Hotel Balmoral in Torquay is a wonderful little hide away that feels like a home from home. We were there for three days for the New Year holiday and from the moment we arrived we started to relax. This lovely family run hotel goes the extra mile to make your stay extra special and this is Bourne out by the fact that many of the guests come back year after year in fact one guest remarked that it was more like a family reunion. The food at the Balmoral is of a consistently high quality the rooms are clean and all amenities are there for you. The three nights of entertainment had the whole place rocking. I would recommend this lovely little hideaway to anyone who wants to relax and be looked after we have never had a bad experience at this hotel. It really is gem in the English Riviera.

  • “Return Visit”

Having visited the Balmoral many times over the past nine years, it amazes me, or perhaps not, how the standard of the friendly and efficient welcome is maintained while you are there, the chef offers a creative menu to suit all tastes and is well presented and served by an efficient friendly dining room staff, special diet requirements are no problem. My latest Christmas/ New Year visit has proved to be the best ever, and confirms my reason to keep going.

  • What a jewel of a hotel & staff

I have just returned having spent a weekend away in Torquay at this hotel & can only say I was very impressed.

If you are expecting the Ritz, then you will be disappointed, but true British value for money you will get,

The rooms although dated, are more than adequate, the food is excellent & plentyful, the service polite & professional, nothing seemed too much for the team,

Evening entertainment was just right, a nice mix of music,

The departing lunch on Sunday was a lovely touch,

I cannot say too much for this jewel of a hotel othet than to give it a try, you wont be disappointed..

  • Weekend break

We went for a weekend break with relatives. We have been visiting this hotel on and off for the past 21 years and have not been disappointed. The refurbished reception area is very stylish and our room had also had a make over. The food as always is very good. We were also lucky with the weather, it was warm and sunny. Alex and the staff are very friendly and work hard, but the lady behind the bar could do with some training on mixing pimms and getting her prices right! We will certainly be going back..

  • What A Place

From the minute we arrived, we were welcomed. Our room with sea views, No3, were good.We have nothing to complain about, the staff were there all the time, but not in your face. The food was very good. When we come back to Torquay, we will certainly come to this hotel. It needs a bit of care in some places, but that does not detract from the comfortable stay. All the staff were attentive. Thank you. See you again.
