Widecombe-in-the-Moor is famous for it’s annual fair which was originally a livestock fair that was first held (arguably) back in 1850, but has now evolved into an all-day event that can attract upwards of 80,000 people.

The fair opens with the judging of livestock in the main ring. Events then carry on right through the day with Morris Dancers, dog shows and even a ferret race! There will also be old favourites such as bale tossing, the Dartmoor Hill Pony Display team and of course, unique to Widecombe Fair; the infamous Tom Cobley Downhill Race.

There will be more than 50 stalls to tempt you and over in the beer tent more than 10 folk bands will be helping everyone party away until the small hours!

It is approx a 45 minute drive from our hotel (20 miles), so maybe stay for a mid-week break! Let someone else worry about the cooking and cleaning!
