Every year, we welcome many diving enthusiasts to The Hotel Balmoral. Diving in Torquay has experienced a huge growth in the last few years, and this is a trend that continues to grow.
It doesn’t matter if you are a complete beginner to the world of scuba diving or you are a seasoned expert, the water of Torquay offers something for all skill levels.
As an example, the award winning Meadfoot beach which is right outside The Hotel Balmoral, offers spectacular shallow diving near to the beach, and awesome wreck diving a bit further out to sea. There is also a local dive school. Whatever kind of diving holiday you are looking for, our hotel is the perfect place to base yourself in Torquay.
Our friendly and helpful staff are happy to advise you on which are the best diving sites in South Devon, while also offering details about diving training courses if you are interested in obtaining the PADI certification.
Here are some of the more popular diving sites in Torquay:
Fairy Cove
One of the most popular diving sites in Torquay, Fairy Cove is a great place to start for people who have recently received their PADI certification. With shallow waters and a huge variety of sea life, there is something to explore for the whole family.
Also, a little bit further out and around 8 meteres down lies the wreck of E.Boat T.289. This is a great opportunity to begin your wreck diving hobby.
Brixham Breakwater
Fancy going for a night dive? If so, then Bixham Breakwater is the perfect location, as it is a safe dive for beginner and experienced divers alike.
Babbacombe Beach
One of the most visited beaches in Torquay is Babbacombe beach, and it has some great diving spots to get your feet weet. One such spot is a tiny little cove which can be found by following Babbacombe Downs road.
However, one of the main reasons why Babbacombe beach is so popular with divers is because of the busy pub that sits right on the beach. Just make sure you save the drinking until you get out of the water.
Shag Rock
If you have a few years of diving experience under your belt and you want something more challenging, then Shag Rock is a place not to be missed. Accessible only by boat, you will find sponges and soft corral that will amaze and delight for hours on end.
The Hotel Balmoral
Hugely popular with the diving community for many years, our family run hotel looks forward to welcoming you on your trip to Torquay. We have superb English cuisine cooked by our expert chef, a choice of en-suite cosy rooms (some with a sea view), a large garden overlooking the sea, and a great location that is close to all the major points of interest in the area.
Not only that, but we have a range of special offers that run throughout the year, so if you are looking for a winter bed and breakfast deal, or a midweek break in the summer, we have offers to suit your schedule and budget.
